Old Learning Center Plans
Draft 1.7 (Feb 17, 2012)
Description
The System of Learning Centers will provide resources to help people discover their true purpose in life, to find their interests, and to learn various skills, all in a friendly and enjoyable environment. It will do so by having staff who themselves life a purposeful life, by allowing students to explore a variety of professions, and by giving students freedom of choice in everything they do. There will be both online and offline components.
Unlike the current educational system, attendance and use will be optional. Because of that, the centers must be so interesting that students will want to spend their time there. Naturally, it will only attract people who want to learn and are willing to use the system properly. (Premise: The people who don't want to learn won't come since they won't have to.)
Cost
Using the centers will not be free. Students can pay weekly, monthly, or yearly to use the resources. New people will have a one week free trial. (Premises: Some people will only want to use the centers for a short period of time)
Process of Change
Eventually, more and more people will leave the conventional educational system to use the Learning Centers as the centers will be a lot more enjoyable than conventional schools. When enough people leave, conventional schools will probably fight to try to get their customers back. They will be fighting a losing battle as our customers will like our services so much that they would fight for us and help spread the word about us. (Premise: The Learning Centers will be so much better than the conventional educational system that almost everyone would be willing to support us.)
Soon, conventional schools will become obsolete as hardly anybody will want to spend their time there. (Premise: Hardly anybody thinks a conventional school and classroom is a fun place to be.)
Problems
There is still a problem that needs to be addressed. What about the kids who don't want to learn anything or build any real life skills and just want to watch TV and play video games? If mandatory attendance were removed, wouldn't such people be unprepared for the real world?
Although such people seem to exist, what if such behavior is caused by forced schooling itself? What if them not wanting to learn anything is caused by the association that learning = tedious and boring? (Premises: Almost all kids consider learning in school to be tedious and boring. Many kids aren't exposed to learning outside of school.) Like what the unschoolers say, might such people change if they were removed from conventional school? This still needs further investigation.

- Going to the Learning Center must be more interesting than playing video games (or any "drug-like" activity).
- The system must be intuitive, simple, and easy to understand.
- The staff and students must have a loving, caring, and friendly environment.
- All people must be treated as equals in power and intelligence.
Methodology
- The system will have both an online and offline component (called the Online Learning Center and the Learning Center respectively).
- The faculty will themselves live a purposeful and impactful life.
- The students will be exposed to a wide variety of experiences.
- The students will have freedom of choice in everything they do.

Draft 1.2 (Jan 15, 2012)
Website Design
The system will be a learning center that is exclusively online.
It will be a place where learners can find resources on every topic.
The current experimental implementation is here: musiclifephilosophy.com/center/
Ideal Child's Life
When children are born, they are taken care of by their parents.
Parents can choose to have their children go to a day care center or to stay with them.
Whatever the choice, the children then find and explore their interests using tutors or the Learning Center with the help of their parents or caretakers. Children can also design their own activities and have them approved.
After they have developed their abilities in one or more interests they really like, the children start making a living from them.
When they are ready, the children move out of their parents' home and start living independantly.

Known Issues
- How will we earn revenue?
- How will we choose editors and admins?
- How do we find good online courses?
- What about integrated ways of learning, like learning art, math, science, and teamwork in one project with other people?
- What will happen after colleges and universities are outsourced to online learning?

Version 1.0 (Jan 1, 2012)
The system will be a learning center that is exclusively online.
It will be a place where learners can find resources on every topic.
This online center will start with topics that don't already have well organized step-by-step courses yet (like web programming and composing).
Colleges and universities will be the first to be replaced by online learning and organizing.
Known Issues
- What will we replace grade school with?
- How will we earn revenue?
- How do we find good online courses?
- What about integrated ways of learning, like learning art, math, science, and teamwork in one project with other people?

Draft 0.5 (Dec 22, 2011)
In this system, nobody is legally required to attend a "school."
Learning centers are analogous to community centers, acting as resources for learners.
Any person (old and young) can use the resources of the learning center.
Known Issues
- What will a typical center look like?
- Will there be any problems if this is implemented?
- How will this system be implemented?
Draft 0.4 (Dec 21, 2011)
In this system, nobody is legally required to attend a "school."
Learning centers are analogous to community centers, acting as resources for learners.
Any person (old and young) can use the resources of the learning center.

Draft 0.3 (Dec 19, 2011)
In this system, nobody is legally required to attend a "school."
Learning centers are analogous to community centers, acting as resources for learners.
Any person (old and young) can use the resources of the learning center.
Known Issues
- How will those who have lost all interest in learning be included?
Draft 0.2 (Dec 16, 2011)
Assume a society where children are not legally required to go to a school or follow any set curriculm. For simplicity, assume this system is the only one there is.
Because of that, this system must be so interesting and fun to participate in that the children want to go.
Known Issues
- What happens to those who fail the interview?
